Parenting Creatively can be tough. As parents, God has imparted to us the joy of raising children so that they use their talents to help further His kingdom.
Tapping into their talents and interests can be challenging.
How do you motivate them to fulfil their God-given direction in life and use their talents to the fullest without nagging?
How do you encourage them in forward thinking? How do you show them that their futures and adulthood will come quickly.
The passing of time is something they do not see as an enemy. Children live in the here and now and do not give much thought to their future. Tweens and teens focus on friends and fun. They do not want to think about college or future careers; but it is our job as parents to help them plan for their future success.
Announcing the Parenting Creatively Series
Each Tuesday and Thursday at Maryandering Creatively, I plan to focus on tips and resources for parenting tweens and teens. Topics will include motivating your tweens and teens in different areas of life: sports, scholarship, organization, reading, and writing. I also plan to share resources on national organizations which offer great scholarships and summer camps.
Let’s face it parenting tweens and teens can be difficult. When you try to get them to read or focus on school work of any type of self-improvement, you often hear the “Oh, mom, I’ll do it later. Can’t I just relax. I have plenty of time.”
How do you motivate and encourage without becoming a nag?
