Writing is Like the Circle of Life: Because We Are Always Revising

October 25, 2017 By Mary Hill 5 Comments

*********

Writing is a circular process  like life because as in life we are always revising our plans, goals, and dreams.

In life, we revise when we hit road blocks or troubles come.

In writing, we revise because we hit writer’s block and sometimes troubles seep into our writing changing our focus.

In life, we dream and plan our next steps.

We set goals and objectives.

In writing, we scheme and plan too. We devise outlines and plans for what we want to write.

We write to deliver messages. We write to share our hopes and dreams with our readers.

We write in different seasons.

In our first drafts in writing and in life, we make initial decisions.

Then we revise because situations change or our writing focus changes.

Sometimes change brings success; other times, our initial life drafts take us down dead ends.

A writer’s life is always in a drafting stage.

We blend our daily concerns and tasks into everything we do as writers.

We observe, record memories, use tidbits from our lives to use as examples for the lessons that we are trying to convey.

Then we revise because we want to make our writing more focused.

We revise our plans in our lives too because we want to sharpen our focus on the here and now.

We write to draw ourselves closer to God.

We writers live our lives in draft stage; always revising, redrawing, re-dreaming, and redirecting.

Then …

Our revisions become like refined prayers. Whispered on the page or computer screen for all to see.

How does being a writer shape your life? Are you always revising as you seek new focus in life and in your writing?

Your Story Is Far from Over

It is so amazing how God can confirm His promises and Word in your Life.

Mary, you cover so many things that we as writers experience. Thanks for sharing your insights. I love the way you described our writings as “prayers whispered on the page or computer screen.”

    Blessings to you!
