I feel like a brilliantly colored leaf letting loose in the air,
Floating to the ground all bare
A lone red leaf who let go to soon
Who did not know what to dream
Who did not know how to dare.
I settled on the forest floor
In a heap of leaves turned brown and wet.
I look up at the sun in the sky
And see the brilliance of the blue dotted with white clouds
My dreams dancing in the air
I snatch at them, grab hold
The wind lifts me into adventures bold
I wrote this poem last year as I experienced autumn. I found it hiding in my draft files. Today, I decided to share. I hope you enjoy it along with my photograph that inspired it. We are still awaiting fall colors in our area. We have had the first fall-like weather with cooler evenings and days, but summer rebounds this weekend.
How is the fall in you area? Have you seen pretty fall foliage yet?

Lovely poem! To be free and see the world, sounds promising 🙂
Trees are just starting to turn here in upstate New York, but I think it is more drought stress than the season. However, the New England asters started to bloom several days ago – a sure sign of the fall sure to com.

I am glad that your leaf got picked up and was able to go off on an adventure.
What a lovely poem and photo. I am looking forward to fall, it’s been a long hot summer here in the south.
Debbi
I know. We are in for more hot temperatures this weekend. I can’t wait til it stays cool. 🙂

I certainly enjoyed your poem! I love the idea of feeling like a fallen leaf. Just this week, I found a HUGE maple leaf on my front walk…with no maple tree nearby. I guess the leaf was whisked away on a grand adventure and ended up at my doorstep! Thanks for sharing!
Lori, sounds like it.

Mary, I love the brilliance of the earth in your photo and the gentle descent of your leaf in the poem. I too am thinking about the transition to a new season. in my letter to Mother Nature (http://beyondliteracylink.blogspot.com/2015/09/easing-into-indian-summer.html). Maybe you would like to combine your poem and photo into a digital inspiration for the fall gallery.
Will do. Let me know where to send it. 😉
