The first month of 2016 faded into the history books. I started my New Year without focus or setting goals on purpose. I am in waiting mode to discover my One Little Word as a theme for 2016. I have started with prayer and meditation as I seek God’s focus for my life this year.

First, I seek to live a daily life that is God-centered in the areas of my family, my ministry, and my community and church by:
- Starting my day in the word and prayer
- Praying over my family members relating to specific areas of spiritual, physical, and mental needs.
- Planning and working on my ministry of writing and blogging. This month I will revisit my mission and vision plan for my blog to insure they are aligned with my goal to reach others for Christ.
- Continuing my membership in my church’s prayer chain. I will spend time throughout the day interceding and praying for my church family and community.
Second, I want to discover my One Little Word for the New Year. I am not in a rush to fulfill this goal. I want to hear from God and know that I am in His perfect will.
in the meantime, I strive to focus on improving my roles as a wife, mother, and homemaker.
February Valentine’s Day equals romance and love. I seek to enhance my marriage by gifting my attention to my husband. He is second to God in my life. I need to work to identify his needs, goals, and desires as I move forward.
My daughter entered those mine-seeking teen years in October. I focus on prayer that she falls in love with God and makes Him the center of her life. With such focus in her own life, she is protected and blessed.
Homemaking with arthritis challenges me daily. How do I create a loving, welcoming home for my family. I will continue to seek my family’s help and try to organize a cleaning schedule where we all can contribute. My husband’s ongoing renovation project presents another challenge. Hopefully, we can finalize our back room this year.
Now as I finish my concentration on goals for February, I start my Five Minute Friday writing session on the word: focus.
2:05 p.m.
Focus means forward thinking. It can mean zeroing in on a particular matter in one’s life. Planning, organizing, and cultivating purpose.
My daughter comes home with homework. She sits down and can focus on her task at hand, but she doesn’t think past today, yet.
As a family, we need to focus on our vision for the New Year.
Where do we start? Where do I start. The seasons and years blur in patterns and crazy memories of yesteryear.
Hearing laughter, crying, arguing in my mind. Seeing a film play in my head endlessly.
Focus starts with knowing Him and finding Him in all the noise of yesterday and today. When I can center on Him in worship and praise, I can focus on His plans. His Word. His Will.
Remembering: Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Focus is a great word to start with until you discover your ‘One Little Word’ 🙂
My word of the year is Focu – concentrate and give it my all in everything I do.

Aditi, thanks. I will start with focus and Jesus. I thought about “prayer” too.

I’m focusing on writing a book proposal. NOT my comfort zone, so it takes a lot of self-encouragment and focus (I could easily distract myself with so many other things…). May God be with you as you work on your goals and seek your focus!
Anita, congrats. I hope you book proposal goes well. I will pray for your. 😉
“Focus starts with knowing Him and finding Him in all the noise of yesterday and today.” I like that! Because if we are focusing on Him we will know what we are supposed to do daily and we will be fulfilled. Enjoyed your post, Mary!

Such a helpful post. I love reading over the goals you set for yourself. I need to do better planning along that line in my life. I’m at the other end of parenting and sometimes I feel like I’m in survival mode as I try to roll with whatever surprise the day brings.
