Finding ways to restore my love for writing centers my focus this week. I shared openly this past winter and spring about my struggles, but now I see a little light at the end of the tunnel. Health issues improved for my daughter in the last two weeks. We are still awaiting a surgery date for my husband.
In the midst of it all, my love for writing dulled. I just couldn’t seem to write through the worries. Now, I am trying to find my love for writing and restore the joy I had when playing with words, creating stories, and sharing my heart with my readers.
First, I am going to commit to writing at least 10 minutes a day this week. I know that doesn’t seem like a like a lot. I feel it is like exercising though. You just have to pick a goal and commit to keeping it.
I will start with free writing and poetry. Hopefully writing daily, I will find inspiration for my novel that I am working on.
How do you restore your love of writing after a lull?
I wrote this post for the Five Minute Five Community where this week’s word is restore.

I’m so glad to hear that things are improving where the health issues are concerned. I pray that your husband gets a date for his surgery soon, so you can all continue to mend.
There have probably been times in all of our lives where a lack of attention and energy have dulled our love for writing. Sometimes it’s sheer survival. But I know you’ll be back on track soon.
Blessings!

I’m so glad you’re back! I know you’ve been and your family have been going through a lot and I’ve been praying for you. It’s always nice to pick up the things that life made too heavy to carry for a time.

I can relate to your writing dilemma Mary, when concerns for family come in the front door the desire to write runs out the back door!
My strategy is to journal my concerns out & then I find that my writing creativity has burst through the front door again! 😀
Glad things are settling for you at home,
Jennifer

I don’t think I ever lost my desire to write, that’s why I have so many blog posts, a lot of the time it was shut in or not being paid attention to, rejections slips, that sort of thing. When you have more time it will flow, but it is healing in its own way, so ten minutes or two , just keep going, and include His words in yours. Prayers.
Rebecca,
Thanks for your kind words.

I’m with Michelle – I get a lot written in 10 minutes. Don’t beat yourself up – we’ve all been there. Another thing that works for me is going back to old posts and using those to create something new. You don’t always have to start from nothing especially if you’ve blogged for a long time.
I will take your advice. There are many posts that I can enhance and rewrite from another perspective. Thank you for stopping by.

Mary, 10 minutes a day is a start and that is what matters. Sometimes things get set aside for a season and there is nothing wrong with that at all. Praying for things in your writing to go well. And I completely agree with you about Michele Morin’s post. She is a gifted writing indeed and I am always encouraged when I read her posts. Blessings and thanks for the linkup today

Dear Mary,
Oh, I am so thankful that your daughter is on the road to improved health! I will continue to pray for your husband. I know the feeling of being depleted as we care for those we love. My husband’s knee replacement has been draining for both of us. And I have heard the Lord speak rest over my writing at times also. But then He will call me to come share words with Him, and sometimes it might be for only 10 minutes as you said. What a blessing to know that He holds all of our days in HIS hands, so safely. Blessings to you!
Sounds like a great plan to get back on track, Mary! I do feel like it is very much like exercising and ten minutes a day will get you moving in the right direction in no time! I’ll be praying for you in this dry period–that fruitfulness will result in time. Thanks for the linkup, my friend!
So glad your daughter is starting to get better. I hope your husband can get his surgery soon.
Your plan sounds like a good one. When certain endeavors have to be put on the back burner for a while, it’s good to give them a stir and take a taste when you can.

Mary, I’m so happy to hear that you are moving toward closure on at least a couple of the health concerns that have been clouding your days. And ten minutes a day is a great beginning. Actually, I think I write most of what I do in ten minute spurts of furious scribbling. 🙂
Enjoy whatever time you find, and make the most of it!
