Members of my community have joined a “rocking” craze. People are painting and hiding rocks all over towns for enthusiasts to find.
We took our grandchildren on a rock hunt yesterday and below are just a few of the rocks that they found.
We also painted a few of our own rocks that we will add to this stash and rehide.
My granddaughter wants to keep the longer rock that reads, “Hello, Gorgeous you found a rock!”
She found it in a large urn in a local park and came running over laughing and breathless.
“Mimi, look what I found.”

Below are some more rocks that they found.

This craze in my own community caused me to research how the idea began.
I could not find a starting point for the craze, but in searching I found that it literally is a national phenomena. Art groups, parents, and children of all ages are painting colorful rocks and then “rocking” a community park or area for others to find.
Many Facebook groups are also forming to fire up participation. Here is a link to just a few of the ones I found.
I also discovered these guides online that provide resources if you want to get involved in the “rocking” craze:
- Rock Painting Guide
- Montana Happy: Rock Painting Ideas How to Get Started
- Just a Little Creativity: Painted Rocks- the Creative Project Sweeping the Nation

Pam reviews a powerful memoir that is not to be missed. If you love history, you may be the story of Kim Phuc Phan Thi (“the napalm girl”). This biography is written by Kim herself and takes you a journey as she discovers faith in Jesus Christ. This review is one not to miss. Thanks Pam for sharing with us this week.

I have never heard of communities doing this. Sounds fun!
This sounds like so much fun, and a way to get the kids involved out in nature too! And, I like the idea of an alternative to the “elf” for Christmas-time!

That explains that I saw some recently at River Legacy Park here close to where I live in North Texas. I may have to get my grandkids to having fun with this. Thanks for sharing.
We’ve got the rock thing going on around here, too. We often find them at our weekly nature preserve visits.
