Overcome Setbacks, Connect With God’s Truth

October 28, 2017 By Mary Hill 4 Comments

Instead of hearing the roar of the engine this morning, I heard a loud click. The day’s plans lied in tatters.

My daughter’s birthday and a planned excursion ruined.

I wanted to kick the tires.

It eventually cranked, but we don’t trust it to drive a on a long trip.

My daughter turned 15 today.

She is so beautiful and funny. Loving and sweet.

Why today?

Her birthday?

I looked at her as she scrunched that cute face as I tried over and over to get the car to crank.

Looking on the positive, we took her to the movie last night with a friend as the beginning of her birthday celebration.

We failed though. I couldn’t throw together a party. Another friend had planned one for the same night, and being my lovely daughter, she didn’t want me to plan her birthday party to conflict with her friend’s party. The friend cancelled that party earlier this week. We didn’t have enough time to plan an alternative.

She accepted all this in good nature though.  She still has plans to visit a hunted house tonight with a group of friends.  I hope she has fun.

We don’t have a cake; we don’t have presents yet.

She isn’t brokenhearted. She enjoyed her night at the movies and has the afternoon free to watch television and practice her piano.

I tried to use it as a lesson, telling her, “All things work together for those who love God and are called according His purpose.” An attempt to connect the disappointment to God’s truth, but she seemed to shrug it off.

In 15 years, she has already learned this lesson over and over again. Her faith in God secure.

I am one blessed mamma.

Happy birthday. I want to use her nickname here, but she’d die of embarrassment. Teenagers.

Set backs are such a pain, especially when trying to organise something for a loved one. I’m currently organising a party for my hubby turning 50. I’ve already encountered a few set backs and I’m no where near the date yet. The setbacks though help you to find alternatives and then you overcome the issue. Thank you for showing your perseverance through this. Visiting from FMF #79
