Tonight, we ring in a New Year 2019 with new goals and ideas.
Looking back at 2018, I never expected the challenges that I faced with sick family members and surgeries.
I feel like my goals last year took a back seat as I became a caregiver.
I face the New Year uncertain and unsteady. Do I select a word of the year or do I continue with my word from last year: breakthrough? I remember my determination as I discovered this word. I wanted to breakthrough is so many areas, but I feel like I failed. I think I need to go back and revitalize this word somehow. Maybe the word will not be exactly breakthrough. I need to pray over this and decide.

I felt like that in 2010. It was the year my dad died of lung cancer, then my mom died 7 months later with Alzheimer’s. Plus other sad, sad things along the way. 🙁 It was a tough year. 2011 was a year of respite, then 2012 was a year of major change. I pray that 2019 will be an easier year for you, Mary. My One Word for 2019 is hope. Sometimes I can forget to do that in the little things.
Mary, I’m sorry that your year was such a difficult, unpredictable one. I can relate to how you feel about failing at your word. My word for 2018 was REST and I don’t feel like I learned that word very well. It was a hard year in many ways and I too wondered if I should take REST with me into 2019. But you know what? God showed up and gave me an exciting new word.
I don’t know what He’ll do for you, Mary but my prayer is that you will see how God has already broken through for you. Thanks to His promises, you don’t have to take failure or guilt with you into the New Year. May you be refreshed and renewed in Him as we welcome 2019 with all its possibilities. And may this year be your brightest and best ever.

I’ve never felt called to a word for the year but feeling like I might have a verse for this year. 2 Tim 4:5. Studying it and praying over it now. Happy New Year. laurensparks.net
Sorry that 2018 has been a tough year. Praying that God will make it clear what your focus should be in 2019!
Last year was sure a rough year for your family. I pray this year will be better in terms of trials, illnesses, and such, but every bit as fruitful in seeing God’s grace and provision for you and your family.
So far I have not felt led to choose a word for the year. I know many do and are blessed by it. But usually God has much more to say to me and work with me on than one word. 🙂 I have not had time to think too much about the next year yet, as family is still here. Once the dust settles and we get back to our usual routine, I hope to think through some things then.

Thank you for the shout out on my post. Funny thing is I too needed to read that list again. I am not sure what happened to me over the last week but self-care went out the window, and I didn’t love myself well. God and I just finished up a conversation about it.
I too am still working on my goals and words. I never commit to anything until I have some time to recover from the holidays and spend some time in contemplation with God. Tomorrow I will be offering a packet on setting a spiritual goal. I hope you will take a look.

You have been a warrior in 2018, Mary, and I pray that you will have the opportunity to lay down your arms in 2019 and rest in God’s provision and love for you.
I don’t have a word for the new year, but God is giving me “persevere” for this day and I’m content to live in that and to ride the currents of this new year as they come.
